You hear many people saying “Overwatch is like TF2”, well, it is, but it’s also much more.
We all have a love/hate relationship with TF2, we love it until we’ve played so much that we hate it. Overwatch (you’ve all heard of it by now, right?) is similar in that regard, except that even as we reach the point where we would normally hate it, we still can’t stop. It’s that addictive nature which adds to the charm and I’m sure many of you out there will agree with me.
So, I mentioned similarity with TF2, what else sets Overwatch apart? The sheer number of heroes? The varied and well balanced abilities? The lack of hats? The answer is: All of the above. I mean it, there is so much to sink your teeth into. Also, if you’re feeling anti-social, you can play against bots of varying difficulty. Though I have not yet had a bad experience with other players, as with every other game, many could do with learning some teamwork skills. Nothing new there, right?
While the number of heroes currently stands at an impressive 21, the number of game-modes seems lacking, though I will admit, inventing new modes of play is definitely a big task, but I think Blizzard are definitely up to it! The lore is detailed and still growing, with animated shorts, digital comics and more. The character design is diverse and fun but without being overly cheesy, it definitely adds to the appeal.
If the open beta has been anything to go by then, yes, Overwatch will be well worth it, expanding on an existing concept while approaching it from a different angle. Overall it’s an incredible amount of fun with an addictive nature that will keep pulling you back in, time and time again. Console owners are also welcome to the party, and what a party it is! If you fall asleep early then Overwatch is the friend that draws obscene things on your face, but you’ll laugh about it together afterwards!
